What hap­pens when pres­su­re builds, or at a sud­den relea­se of for­ce – when things implo­de or explode? 

Ontsteking invi­ted OFFoff to put together a film pro­gram in dia­lo­gue with the exhi­bi­ti­on Mounting Tension (4 September - 11 October). Curated by Laurens Otto, the exhi­bi­ti­on looks at phy­si­cal, men­tal, poli­ti­cal and sexu­al ten­si­on through an expand­ed view of sculp­tu­re. Bringing together sculp­tu­re, sound, pho­to­grap­hy and text, ten­si­on is under­stood not only as some­thing psy­cho­lo­gi­cal or poli­ti­cal, but as a phy­si­cal con­di­ti­on: some­thing held within mate­ri­als, bet­ween forms, or relea­sed when for­ces shift.

We are hono­red to pre­sent the 4K res­tora­ti­on of Bruce Conner’s mas­ter­pie­ce Crossroads, which, like seve­r­al other films in this pro­gram, is rare­ly scree­ned out­si­de the muse­um as a full cine­ma­tic experience.
